HISTORY OF OUR RESCUE SERVICE
The OEMC has been supporting and offering a Rescue and Rehoming scheme for over 50 years. In 1983 the late Mr Graham Hicks became the first Director of the scheme, taking dogs into the family home until a suitable new home could be found.
In 2008 Steve & Debbie Jones volunteered to take over the running of the Rescue service. A different format was introduced whereby people who needed to rehome their Mastiff were put in touch with people who were offering a new home to a Mastiff. This proved to be very successful and it was therefore agreed that a new name was required to reflect the new policy. At the AGM held in 2010, following a unanimous vote by members, the current Rehoming scheme, as detailed below, came into being.
The OEMC Rehoming Scheme
A Mastiff welfare scheme for the benefit of full members who have found themselves suffering accidents, death or severe domestic crisis.
A Mastiff Rehoming helpline for non-members.
The website would be used to advertise genuine Mastiff rehoming cases.
Please be advised that assistance from OEMC Rehoming is only available for purebred Mastiffs.
If you are a member of the OEMC and you have a need to rehome a mastiff you own, or have bred, or own/owned the sire then use the form below and you will be contacted as soon as possible.
You will be asked to prove, as far as it is possible, that you have legal ownership of the dog or the permission of the legal owner. We will seek reassurance that the mastiff concerned has never shown aggression towards humans or other animals. We will then try and match the dog with one of the people we have eagerly waiting to offer a home to one of our dogs in need. With permission of both parties, contact details will be given and the OEMC will have no further involvement.
As a club with a numerically small membership, and no longer having member breeders with large kennels with space to home the occasional rescue, our scheme is by necessity strictly a ‘hands-off’ operation. It is highly unlikely that we will ever have contact with the dogs requiring rehoming.
If you are a mastiff owner and not a member of the OEMC, then please consider joining the club – details available here. If this is not for you, but you need to rehome a mastiff, then please feel welcome to make contact via the form below and we will offer as much assistance as possible.
