Judges Commentary

I want to extend my sincere thanks to the Old English Mastiff Club for this prestigious appointment. Fortunately, we had a beautiful sunny day, contributing to the cheerful and enjoyable atmosphere. I would also like to thank the Show Manager and Stewards for their dedication and support throughout the event. Thank you to all the exhibitors for your entries and for displaying such admirable sportsmanship. We were lucky to have a generously sized ring—something we Mastiff exhibitors should truly make the most of.

Veteran Dog. 1 entry

1st, CH COLLATERAL TO THE FUTURE BAILEY AT CYBERUS (IKC), 7-year-old Fawn dog – Good head proportion from the front and profile, broad, flat skull with a wide and deep muzzle, eyes set wide apart and dark in colour, good dentition, and a strong neck. Body long, with a deep broad chest, good layback of shoulder and return of upper arms, and cat-like feet. Good bend of stifle. The top line could be firmer. Handled very well by his young handler.

Minor Puppy Dog, 5 entries (2 absent)

1st, QUENZO SLNKO ZEMPLINA AT NOBELHEART (IMP SVK), a typical 6-month-old puppy with a good head, lovely dark mask, good eyes, level topline, and good bend of stifles with tight feet. Moved well; needs to strengthen behind, and I am sure this will come with time.

2nd, CRAIGLESTONE LORD PU NAM, rising 8 months old, beautiful dark brindle with a good clean head, nice tight eyes, correct ear set, level topline, and moved well. A very close decision between my 1st and 2nd.

Puppy Dog, 1 entry (1 absent)

Junior Dog. No Entries

Novice Dog, 1 entry

1st, CRAIGLESTONE SIR ELI SABETH, 2-Year-old, brindle mastiff with big broad skull, eyes well set apart, ears set on high, would prefer less dewlap, wide and deep chest, well let down between the front legs. Good topline, moved ok.

Post Graduate Dog, 3 entries (1 absent)

1st, WIGGENHALLS GEORGE, 3-year-old substantial brindle boy, lovely temperament, nice clean head with tight dark eyes set wide apart, good denture, would prefer a shorter muzzle, long body, chest broad and deep with well laid shoulder, strong pastern, firm topline, good hindquarters with good angulation, moved well.

2nd, CYBERUS TIGER OF GIGANTIFFZ, 2-year-old brindle mastiff, in lovely condition with good head, good eyes, deep, broad chest, good topline, moved ok.

Limit Dog, 4 entries (1 absent)

1st, LINFERT’S FLIGHT OF FANCY (IMP USA), 5-year-old lovely fawn boy. Beautiful clean head as requested in the breed standard, with good head proportion in profile and front, good eyes. Good denture, muscular neck, long body, strong topline. My reserve best dog.

2nd, ARLEITH AFTER DARKNESS (IMP POL), 22 months old, apricot brindle in excellent condition, substantial dog of great size, well-muscled. Good forequarters and backend, strong top line.  I would prefer a less exaggerated head. Moved ok.

Open Dog, 2 entries (1 absent)

1st, CH ELLJAYART THE GREAT MASTER OF GIGANTIFFZ, 3-year-old fawn in excellent condition. He is a beautiful mastiff that oozes type. A lovely black mask that we seem to be missing these days.  Correct head proportions, strong neck onto good lay of shoulders and a well-covered body. Good eyes, set wide apart with correct denture. Good layback of the shoulder and return of the arms, giving him a perfect front angulation, good springs of rib, and good rear angulation. If I am being super critical, I would prefer a stronger top line. My best dog today, however, in the challenge for the best of breed, he was not at the top of his game.

Veteran Bitch. 1 entry (1 absent)

Minor Puppy bitch, 2 entries

1st, CRAIGLESTONE MISS WHMSY, 7-month-old dark brindle girl with feminine head, small dark eyes, loved her overall proportions, stunning mover. Best puppy and best puppy in show.

2nd, KAVITIA’S ENGLISH TEA, 7-month-old fawn girl feminine head with appealing dark mask needs to strengthen behind, and I am sure this will come with time.

Puppy Bitch. 1 entry (1 absent)

2nd, OGREINTHEWOODS HYGD WITH WISDOM, 12-month-old fawn girl, still very much a puppy, feminine head, good topline, moved ok, and showed well.

Post Graduate Bitch, 6 entries (2 absent)

1st, KARYSMHOR REMEMBERANCE, 3-year-old fawn girl, good feminine head with dark mask, good eyes, good topline, well-muscled, nice angulation, moved soundly

2nd, HALLBERD HONEY, 2-year-old substantial brindle girl, good head, good forequarters with good depth of body, good hindquarters, moved ok, a very close decision between 1 and 2.

1st, FOXY LADY ROSE, 2-year-old brindle girl, beautiful type, feminine head, good balance of muzzle to skull, good eyes, good dentition, strong neck. Chest wide and deep, legs straight and strong with upright pastern. Body deep enough, with good depth of flank, she moved well with her young handler, and I had no hesitation to award her best bitch and BOB.

2nd, KARYSMHOR FLANDERS FOR FRAGILIS, 3-year-old apricot bitch, good clean head, dark mask, nicely portioned. This bitch grows on the move; her handler used the large ring to show case her to full advantage. Today, she was at the top of her game, and her beautiful movement sealed her RBIS.

Open Bitch, 3 entries (2 absent)

1st, PIA ASSISI FOR NOBELHEART, 4-year-old substantial fawn bitch, good type. Good balance of muzzle to skull, prefer a tighter eye. Deep broad chest and lovely depth of ribs. Not happy on the move.
